NCUA has made it clear that a key priority for its examiners in 2008 is evaluating credit union's due diligence with their third party vendors, as highlighted during the agency's webinar last month.

This CUNA session takes due diligence even further by examining the requirements as well as offering solutions and approaches from practitioners that are working for credit unions.

Speakers include:

Mary Dunn is senior vice president and deputy general counsel for the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) in Washington, DC. Mary currently leads CUNA's Regulatory Advocacy Department, which is comprised of three attorneys in addition to her. In this capacity, she presents credit union interests before the National Credit Union Administration, the Federal Reserve Board, the Federal Trade Commission, and other federal agencies. Mary is responsible for correspondence with government agencies, including all regulatory comment letters CUNA files. She ensures that credit union regulatory developments are communicated to CUNA members on a timely basis through such publications as CUNA's RegWatch, a biweekly electronic newsletter. She is a frequent speaker at CUNA and league meetings. Mary is chief staff liaison to CUNA's Examination and Supervision Subcommittee and to the CUNA Federal Credit Union Subcommittee; she is also a liaison to the CUNA Governmental Affairs Committee.

Marcia Barron, CPA is the director of internal audits for Credit Union National Association (CUNA) and CUNA Strategic Services, Inc. She is responsible for providing an independent evaluation function, primarily focused on assisting management and the audit committees in the ongoing development of the control environment. Her responsibilities include development and implementation of the risk based audit plan including audits, special projects and investigation. She is also involved in the evaluation and assessment of significant risk associated with new/merging/consolidating functions that impact services, processes, operations and controls. Marcia has over twenty years of experience in finance and audit.

Julie Esser, director of new alliances for CUNA Strategic Services, is responsible for the development of new strategic alliance relationships. This includes assessing the marketplace needs; understanding the market opportunities and threats; determining if a new product line would be better supported through a new alliance or existing one; executing and evaluating RFPs; conducting the due diligence investigation; creating the business plan; developing overall profitability; and creating marketing, sales and support strategies. Julie has been with CUNA for 20 years and has extensive experience in product management, marketing, product development, and project management.
