Discussion Panel Includes:

Kathleen Thompson is senior vice president and associate general counsel for the Credit Union National Association. For more than twenty years, she has represented credit unions before the National Credit Union Administration, the Federal Reserve Board, the Treasury Department, the Federal Trade Commission, and other federal agencies. Kathy headed CUNA’s staff efforts to get the Credit Union Campaign for Consumer Choice up and running in the fall of 1996, and worked exclusively on the Campaign until November 1997. She is currently focusing her efforts on increasing CUNA’s compliance information to leagues and credit unions, and on providing assistance in the drafting of legislation and the preparation of testimony for Congress. Kathy appears regularly before credit union groups to discuss current congressional and regulatory events and to present compliance seminars.

Valerie Moss is director of compliance information for CUNA in Washington D.C. Valerie works closely with CUNA’s Publications and Web Services Departments to deliver useful and accurate compliance information in a user-friendly format to CUNA’s members. She is the editor of both Credit Union Magazine’s Compliance Matters and CUNA’s e-Guide to Federal Laws and Regulations. Although these are her major responsibilities, Valerie also helps support CUNA’s compliance certification program RegTraC, monitors CUNA’s compliance e-mail list “COBWEB,” and answers compliance questions via telephone and e-mail. Before joining CUNA in 1997, Valerie was a regulatory specialist with the Michigan Credit Union League.

Nichole L. Seabron is federal compliance counsel for CUNA in the Washington, D.C. In this position, Nichole is responsible for maintaining CUNA’s e-Guide to Federal Laws and Regulations and responding to credit union compliance inquiries. She is responsible for editing and contributing to CUNA’s monthly Compliance Challenge, the online compliance newsletter presented in a question-and- answer format. Nichole has more than 10 years of financial services experience (including three years with Navy Federal Credit Union) in areas such as asset management, bankcard and retail banking. Prior to joining CUNA in 2005, she was a corporate compliance officer/AVP with Bank of America Private Bank.

Michael McLain is assistant general counsel and senior compliance counsel at CUNA in Madison, Wisconsin. He works with CUNA Center for Professional Development to ensure its products and services are in compliance with and accurately portray federal regulations affecting credit unions. He also answers compliance questions from state credit union leagues and credit unions. Mike is also a regular contributor of compliance related articles to CU Magazine. Prior to joining CUNA’s legal department, McLain served for approximately 10 years as vice president and corporate counsel to a $300 million credit union in northeast Ohio and for nearly two years as vice president and corporate counsel to a $500 million credit union in central Pennsylvania.
