ABOUT THIS WEBINAR
Media has the power to significantly help with the success of your credit union. The right spin on the right story can certainly promote growth, but reaching out to the media isn't always the best option.

This webinar will explore the reasons behind some of marketing's decisions when working with the press, and why the CEO and senior level staff MUST work in agreement with marketing for a truly effective media strategy. It is just one of many webinars CUNA offers for credit union CEO and senior management teams to provide insights on some of the toughest issues credit unions are facing. This webinar is approximately an hour in length plus a question and answer section at the conclusion of the webinar.

Topics you won't want to miss include:
  • Learn the differences in deadlines and the importance of visuals
  • See how to decide what is actually newsworthy and when to leave the media out
  • Hear what to expect when dealing with the press
  • Discover ways to add spin to a story to get your members talking
  • Hear what works and what fails when credit unions work together

Phoebe Wall Howard will share her knowledge and experience with you!

Prior to running an agency with offices in Northern and Central California, Phoebe worked for the largest public relations firm in the country. She spent 12 years working in newspapers, magazine, TV, and radio. She is an Associated Press award winner and Pulitzer Prize nominee.

As a political editor and columnist for the McClatchy News Co., Phoebe oversaw election coverage out of Washington, D.C. and Central California and coordinated polls and televised political debates. She is a guest host on the top-rated talk radio show in the region.

Before moving to the West Coast, Phoebe worked at The Des Moines Register. She covered presidential campaigns, labor union negotiations, and corporate fraud. The Iowa Supreme Court cited her articles about foster care children when it revamped state policy.

Phoebe began her career at The Arkansas Gazette covering then-Gov. Bill Clinton, death row, and the dark side of the Miss America Pageant. While in Arkansas and Iowa, she also worked for People magazine.

Here's what Madge Brady, Marketing Coordinator for Delta Community Credit Union had to say about Phoebe's presentation at CUNA's Marketing & Business Development Conference:
"The presentation was excellent, filled with tips on how to effect positive media interaction. I particularly enjoyed the questions and answers as she gave such immediate and detailed responses that were very helpful."

Here are some other comments from Phoebe's presentations to credit unions.
  • She made some great points and ideas to think about in preparation for media contacts.
  • I am responsible for our public relations and am amazed with how much this class will improve the effectiveness of my press releases and media addresses!
  • She could have spoken all day! Very informative and motivating!
  • Great topic and ideas! Love free tips!
  • Great energy! Incredibly informative.
  • This was way better than anything I learned about in PR in college. Thank you. I feel much less intimidated about trying for press coverage now. Very valuable!

WEBINAR OVERVIEW
CPD Webinars enable staff to pick up new skills and keep up with daily responsibilities. Just like in face-to-face classes, students see and hear a presentation, ask questions of the instructor, and refer to handouts. You need only a speakerphone and computer with Internet connection. And if you have a computer projection screen, it's easy to provide this training to a whole roomful of staff!

Use our webinars as part of a full day of training. Gain knowledge and ideas at the webinar, then spend some time discussing how the new information applies to your credit union.

CPD Webinars use WebEx to provide an interactive and convenient online learning environment. Whether you are a first time WebEx user, or simply need a refresher, take a short tour of WebEx to help you get the most from CPD Webinars. You'll learn how to effectively interact with the presenter and your peers during live webinars.
