October 12–15, 2008
San Francisco, CA

ABOUT THIS EVENT

Presented by CUNA in cooperation with National Credit Union Foundation.

Strengthen your credit union and your entire community
For all those that enjoyed the CUNA Serving Low-Wealth Households Conference, you'll gather even more from the range of topics and ideas at the CUNA Reach Out! Conference.

From gathering insights into the needs of low-wealth individuals, immigrants, and youth to gaining effective strategies, this conference is sure to strengthen your credit union – and your entire community.

REAL Solutions
REAL Solutions is an innovative program piloted by the Filene Research Institute and now managed by the National Credit Union Foundation.

One of the fundamental philosophical values of credit unions is to deliver financial services to the people of modest means. A Web site was originally constructed to assist credit unions and their service organizations (CUSO's) in learning how they can provide low-fee transaction services and special savings programs to modest- and moderate-income households that are currently using check-cashing outlets and other fringe banking businesses.

In July of 2004, the Filene Research Institute agreed to fund a national initiative to take this concept to the marketplace with real and actionable models to help credit unions reach these households. Under the direction of Lois Kitsch, the Institute restructured "Check Cashing Business Opportunities" into the new identification of REAL Solutions (Relevant, Effective, Asset-building, Loyalty-producing services Solutions).

The number of credit unions, banks, and thrifts has continued to steadily decrease in recent years, as has the number of low-wealth households served by traditional financial institutions. Today, credit unions have an opportunity to reverse this alarming trend! Start with this conference and take away an action plan with REAL Solutions. See a full report.
