In this three-day session, you will:

  • Create a strategic plan that increases the use of credit union products and services.
  • Learn how to change poor financial behavior.
  • Build a culture of financial learning to attract and help members—and position yourself as the "go to" resource in your community.

All participants will also receive a copy of CUNA's Model Youth Program Guide. All attendees will receive a prework packet to complete before the institute. See more details below.

The Personal Finance Institute is open to a limited number of participants--register early to guarantee your place in this program.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Staff who believe that teaching financial literacy to their members and their community is necessary and vital to their credit union's future success. Participants should be involved in creating a strategic plan for their credit union that includes financial literacy as part of the mission and goals. For some, that's the CEO or VP of marketing or training. For others, it's a Board member or the business development officer.

It doesn't matter what your title is, only that you are already committed to developing a "cradle to grave" financial education program that makes your members financially fit. We'll provide you with the tools and information to:

  • Define "financially literate" for your members and staff.
  • Find the best methods to reach and teach your target demographic.
  • Improve use of products and services through improved financial literacy.
  • Change the poor financial behavior of members (and staff)
  • Build a culture of financial learning in your credit union and community.
  • Benchmark and measure the results of your financial education goals.
  • Assist in the creation of a national credit union program that recognizes excellence in financial literacy learning.

  • PREWORK
Since this is a working session, you knew there had to be prework, right? We've designed it to prepare you for success. Approximately 1 month prior to the event, you'll receive a prework packet via e-mail. It will include:

A profile to complete and return prior to PFI asking for information about

  • Budget/staff for education
  • # of members in various age categories
  • Products/services currently offered that have an education component
  • Tools currently used to measure education results
  • Questions to benchmark yourself against the recent CUNA Financial Literacy Survey results
  • To help participants all "sing out of the same songbook", you'll receive 4-5 readings) that cover

  • Fascinating – and scary—information to ponder
  • Philosophy to boost your learning
  • Successful case studies to share with your team
